The Denburn
In one of the most historic parts of Aberdeen lies a site which was once the heart of the city where the main source of water was the centre of the community.
Denburn today straddles the extant water course and an edge between dense residential Rosemount and the cultural heart of the city. Our brief was to provide a health centre on the site of the existing brutalist building.
My scheme asks how we can give something back to the city which can bring health and well-being to all around it.
By providing connection and identification the building aims to provide new routes of pedestrian access to neighbouring areas and a generous indoor space that would combine a verdant environment with key community facilities. The health centre brief was expanded to include community spaces, essential retail (café, pharmacy, etc.) and a community garden for the use of local residents.
